John 15:18-19, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
Many of you may know that persecution has been happening in India, and in particular towards Christians in Orissa and now in Karnataka. If you are familiar with India you will know that Bangalore is in the southern part of Karnataka.
Last week two American Missionaries were arrested in Bangalore. They were witnessing to Hindus at a Ganesh temple during the week of Ganesh’s birthday. The young men the Americans were talking to said they were being harassed by the Christians and made a complaint, which led to their arrest. Upon their arrest there were 50 Hindus protesting outside the police station. This is all I know of for now, and the papers are not saying much about the event any more.
Northern Karnataka is seeing more and more persecution in the form of threats and minor incidents towards the Christian community. Just this morning, Sunday September 14, news has broke of several churches just west of us, possibly as close as four hours from us, being attacked by radicals, and people have been injured and hospitalized. This is the link to the news article: http://www.persecution.in/node/3109
Please know we are not worried or afraid for our safety or our children’s, but we wanted to ask for your prayers for safety for those being persecuted and ourselves if it comes to that. Pray that we will stand firm and continue to walk according to the will of God.
The growth in persecution tells me that the Spirit must be moving in India, as there is much battle and anger going on in the hearts of those who want to refuse God and turn the other way. Persecution, I think, tends to weed out the goats from the sheep; those whom truly love God and those who are only posing as followers, as those who truly love Him will not turn from Him when persecution comes. They will always admit they are followers of Christ. I am not saying that running is not needed at times, what I am saying is that those who follow Christ will not stop following Him no matter where they are or what is being done. Their minds are not changed because of tough times.
With that said, we have had to take down our address on the blog, just as others have had to take down information that can lead to their location. I do not want to purposely put my family in danger, thus we are taking precautions. I have already had an email of some brothers and sisters in Orissa who have had their facebook group being hacked and they are being threatened to either take the group/site down or more would happen. We are no longer going to use the names of Indians we work with or engage in witness too, as we also do not want to put them in danger.
The leader of our organization is trying to halt all other American groups affiliated with our organization from coming until the violence and persecution has slowed down for safety purposes. There was a medical group coming in January and he is trying to reschedule that and any other American groups (groups with white people) from entering for safety purposes. This leads us to believe that the problem will worsen before it gets better, definitely be in prayer.
If you do not have our address then please ask us via our email.
